Otomeyu in Funabori: A Natural Black Spring and a Cold Bath for Sauna Users
Plan a visit to Otomeyu in Funabori, with a natural black-spring bath, two distinct cold pools, ¥600 entry and 15 parking spaces.
Otomeyu stands out among Tokyo sento for the way its baths are arranged: a semi-open-air natural black spring, a black-water cold pool beside it, and another cold bath reserved for sauna users. That makes it appealing if you want a compact sauna circuit rather than a large day spa. The ward lists a broader collection of indoor baths as well, including massage, bubble and electric baths.
Two cold baths serve different purposes
Otomeyu’s half-open-air pool uses natural black spring water. The adjacent cold bath also uses the source water, while sauna users have a separate cold bath and dedicated powder room. That distinction is handy at busy times: the source-water plunge is not the only cooling option after the sauna.
The bathhouse is a sento rather than a resort spa. Shampoo and body wash are provided, but towels are rented separately; hairdryers and massage chairs cost extra. There is a baby-changing bed. If you have tattoos or plan to use the sauna, check the current rules with Otomeyu before setting out.
Hours, admission and access
Admission is ¥600 for adults, ¥200 for elementary-school children and ¥100 for preschool children. Sauna costs extra; ask at the counter for the current surcharge.
Otomeyu opens 3–11 p.m. on weekdays and 2–11 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Monday is the usual closing day; when Monday is a public holiday, the day off moves to Tuesday.
The nearest station is Funabori on the Toei Shinjuku Line, roughly seven minutes away on foot. The Funabori 7-chome bus stop is about two minutes from the door. For drivers, Otomeyu has 15 parking spaces—far more than nearby Tsurunoyu. If you are choosing between both Funabori sento, see the Otomeyu versus Tsurunoyu comparison; Tsurunoyu has a documented flow-through outdoor bath and is closer to the station.
