Niwanoyu in Toshimaen: What Couples Can Share, and What They Can’t
Niwanoyu’s swimsuit Bade Zone is shared; nude onsen and indoor saunas are gender-separated, with a garden spring bath and Finnish sauna.
At Niwanoyu, couples do not bathe together in the main nude bathing area. The shared experience happens in the Bade Zone, where swimwear is required. You can use its outdoor natural hot-spring whirlpool and Finnish sauna together, then split up for the gender-separated baths and saunas before meeting again in the lounge or restaurant.
The shared zone is a real part of the onsen visit
The Bade Zone is not just a pool next to the baths. It includes a warm-water hydrotherapy pool, an outdoor whirlpool supplied with natural hot-spring water, and an outdoor Finnish sauna. Swimwear is compulsory, and these shared facilities are included in admission. Rental swimwear costs ¥500 if you did not bring your own.
The regular bathing area works differently: it is entered without swimwear and divided into men’s and women’s sides. Bathing together is not allowed there, and the saunas inside those areas are also separate. Couples looking for one continuous private soak should look elsewhere; Niwanoyu’s layout builds in time apart.
The women’s sauna was redesigned in 2026
The women’s Finnish sauna reopened on 1 April 2026 with cedar aroma, star-like lighting and an indoor cooling area screened with plants. Self-löyly is available. It is a useful reason for a solo visit too, especially if you prefer a quieter, lower-pressure sauna environment to a more intense setup. The men’s sauna area has its own facilities and should not be assumed to mirror the women’s side.
Prices, age rules and a closure to keep on your calendar
Niwanoyu admits visitors aged 13 and over. Towels and indoor wear are included; bedrock bathing and swimwear rental cost extra.
| Ticket | Weekday | Weekend / public holiday | Designated peak date |
|---|---|---|---|
| General admission | ¥2,600 | ¥3,300 | ¥3,400 |
| Night spa (from 6 p.m.) | ¥1,800 | ¥2,400 | ¥2,500 |
The facility is open 10 a.m.–11 p.m., with last admission at 10 p.m. There is no parking lot. Toshimaen Station is a two-minute walk from the Seibu line or about three minutes from the Toei Oedo Line. A maintenance closure is scheduled for 9–13 November 2026; check the official notice if your dates are near then.
Tattoos and tattoo stickers are not permitted. Re-entry after leaving is not allowed, so bring what you need before checking in. If you arrive together, agreeing on a meeting time before heading to the separate bathing areas saves a little guesswork later.
