Yufuin Hoshinosato: Private Baths, Room Upgrades and the Station Shuttle
Standard Hoshinosato rooms include two bookable private baths; the suite adds an in-room spring. Dinner is not served and shuttle booking is due a day ahead.
Checked: September 27, 2026 Hoshinosato has eight rooms and two private-use baths fed by its own source. The larger Hoshi bath holds up to five; the smaller Sato bath is for two. Both look toward Mount Yufu. A standard room can be enough if you are happy to reserve a shared bath slot. The suite is the option to compare if you want a hot-spring bath in your room rather than fitting every soak around the reservation sheet.
The bath schedule is the real upgrade question
Guests request private-bath times on an application sheet at the front desk; reservations are not secured when booking the room. The official bath page allows one 50-minute session in the evening and one 30-minute session in the morning, at no extra charge. Current hours are 5 p.m.–11:50 p.m. (last reception 11 p.m.) and 6–9:10 a.m. (last reception 8:40 a.m.). Popular evening slots may already be taken when you arrive.
The official room page distinguishes the suite, which has an indoor hot-spring bath, terrace, kitchen and massage chair, from standard Japanese rooms and the HANA twin room. A terrace or an en-suite bathroom on another room category is not evidence of an in-room hot spring. Check the full room name and facilities before paying an upgrade premium.
The source is named Hoshi-no-Yu and is classified as an alkaline simple hot spring. The inn describes the baths as source-fed. The public page does not give a source temperature, pH or a full treatment specification for each tub, so there is no basis for quoting those figures.
Plan dinner before you reach the inn
Hoshinosato does not serve dinner. Eat in town before check-in or bring food; the property’s sample itineraries recommend doing so. Breakfast is offered on selected plans, but check the meal details and serving time attached to your dates rather than relying on an itinerary example. This is not a good match for guests expecting a full-course dinner without leaving the property.
The shuttle has a firm booking cutoff
Yufuin Station is about a 30-minute walk away, or roughly seven minutes by taxi. The inn lists free pickups from the station at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.; the return shuttle leaves for the station at 10 a.m.
Reserve by 11:59 p.m. on the day before check-in; same-day requests are not accepted, and seats are limited. If your train arrives close to the last pickup, arrange a taxi rather than counting on a tight connection.
