Yufuin Rakuyu: A Private Open-Air Hot Spring in Every Room
Every Rakuyu detached room has a source-fed outdoor spring bath; upgrades change garden, space and occupancy, not bath access.
Checked: September 27, 2026 At Yufuin Rakuyu, the private bath is included in every room category. The inn has ten detached rooms, each with an open-air hot-spring bath; you do not need to book its most expensive room to get one. Room upgrades change the layout and outdoor space, so start with how many people are staying and how much time you expect to spend in the room.
What an upgrade buys
Room names include Yufu-no-Izumi, Takiboshi and several other individually styled cottages. Yufu-no-Izumi has a 43-square-metre garden with both an outdoor bath and footbath. Other rooms lean more toward a Japanese-Western layout or a more compact private-bath stay. Compare floor area, garden, bed arrangement and guest capacity; the room’s private outdoor spring bath is already part of the baseline.
One detail is easy to miss: the inn’s FAQ says the outdoor bath in each room uses its hot spring, while the indoor bath uses heated tap water. If the listing shows both an indoor tub and an outdoor bath, that does not mean both are spring-fed.

Plan around dinner and the location
Rakuyu’s restaurant serves seasonal Japanese cuisine using local Oita vegetables and fish alongside ingredients from elsewhere in Japan. Dinner seating is listed at 5:45 or 6:15 p.m.; breakfast at 8 or 8:30 a.m. There is no in-room dining. If you want to eat in town or expect to arrive late, check whether a room-only or breakfast plan is available for your dates.
The inn sits on higher ground above the basin, about 15 minutes by car from Yufuin IC and roughly seven minutes by car from Lake Kinrinko. It has free parking. This is not the most convenient base if you want to walk back and forth to the station; it works better when you have a car or plan to stay on the property.
