Toshoan in Yufuin: Eight Rooms With Private Baths and Mount Yufu Views

All eight rooms have a dedicated bath supplied with Yufuin hot-spring water, and the inn describes the water as alkaline simple spring water flowing from the source. There is no large communal bathhouse, so this is not the place to book for a circuit of indoor and outdoor public pools.

Pick a room by the bath and the amount of separation

The four main-house rooms pair a private viewing bath with a view of Mount Yufu. Their tubs vary: some are stone, others ceramic or hinoki. The two detached Japanese-Western rooms add more separation and different layouts; Tsubaki has a loft, while Kikyo uses Towada stone in its bath. Botan, the detached special room, is the one to consider if you want both an indoor hinoki bath and an outdoor tub. Shakuyaku is the single Royal Suite, designed for two guests.

The bath is not the reason to pay more for the top category—every room already has one. Upgrade for a second bathing space, a particular room layout, or the extra privacy of a detached cottage. Capacity varies by room, so check the full room name if you are travelling with children or a small group.

Meals and arrival are part of the plan

Toshoan serves seasonal kaiseki in Asagiri, a dining room made up of private rooms. The meal is part of the appeal, but it also gives the evening a schedule; check the current dinner start when you choose a plan. If you expect to arrive late, contact the inn before booking a two-meal rate.
