Kyushu Onsen Towel Costs: Where You Can Bathe Without Packing a Kit
Compare towel costs and listed toiletries at day-use baths in Yufuin, Unzen, Beppu, Kagoshima and Ureshino, including a conflicting towel policy to confirm.
“Empty-handed” can mean a face towel and nothing else, or arriving without soap, a bath towel, a hair dryer and a place to lock your clothes. Those are very different visits. Across these five Kyushu baths, the clearest fully equipped option is Satsuma-no-Yu in Kagoshima; the lowest published admission is Siebold no Yu in Ureshino, but the city asks guests to bring their own towel and does not publish a complete set of towel prices.
At a glance: admission plus the towel you may need
| Facility | Adult admission | Small towel | Bath towel | What is clear about toiletries? | Cost to cover both towel sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yufuin Sansuikan | ¥1,000 | The official page says one face towel is included, but elsewhere tells day visitors to bring or buy one for ¥100 | Rental ¥500 | Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are listed; hair dryers are listed on the spa page | ¥1,000 if the included towel is supplied; ¥1,500 with the ¥500 bath-towel rental. Confirm the conflicting face-towel wording first. |
| Unzen Seiunso | ¥880 | ¥200 for one towel | ¥200 | The day-use page does not give a complete toiletries list | ¥1,280 |
| Hyotan Onsen, Beppu | ¥1,160 | ¥250 to buy | ¥200 to rent | Rinse-in shampoo, body wash and hair dryers are listed for the baths | ¥1,610 |
| Satsuma-no-Yu, Kagoshima | ¥3,500 | Included | Included | Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryers and changing-room lockers are listed | ¥3,500 |
| Siebold no Yu, Ureshino | ¥450 | Bring your own; the city page gives no current towel price | No rental price or option is confirmed on the city page | The city page does not list a full set of bath amenities | No reliable empty-handed total is published |
These totals assume one adult wants both a small towel for the washing area and a full-size towel for drying. If you only need one, subtract the other item. Shampoo and body wash are not counted as extras where the facility lists them as available; an unlisted amenity should not be treated as included.
Yufuin Sansuikan: good value, but ask about the face towel
Sansuikan’s day-use bath runs from 1 to 3 p.m. The day-use table and Yufu tourism guide say a face towel is included, while the same spa page says day visitors should bring one or buy it. The page lists a bath-towel rental too.
| Adult visit | Included face towel | Buy face towel instead | Add bath-towel rental |
|---|---|---|---|
| Admission | ¥1,000 | ¥1,000 | ¥1,000 |
| Total if the page’s wording is followed | ¥1,000 | ¥1,100 | ¥1,500 with included face towel; ¥1,600 with purchased towel |
The hotel’s page conflicts about the face towel; confirm which option applies before setting out.
The same page lists shampoo, conditioner and body wash, while the spa page lists hair dryers. The short day-use window also matters: it is a poor fit for a late-afternoon stop. For other nearby choices, see the Yufuin day-use onsen guide and the Yufuin station-area bath guide.
Unzen Seiunso: the easiest towel total to calculate
| Seiunso day visit | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥880 |
| Hours | 11 a.m.–6 p.m. |
| Face towel / bath towel | ¥200 / ¥200 |
| Admission plus both towels | ¥1,280 |
The ticket covers the large baths and outdoor bath. No advance booking is required; ask at reception on arrival.
The page does not publish a full list of shampoo, body wash or hair-dryer facilities for day visitors. It has separate information for overnight guests, but room amenities should not be assumed to come with a day ticket. If you rely on a particular product, bring it or check with the front desk first. The Unzen day-use bath guide compares this option with other baths in the area.
Beppu Hyotan Onsen: convenient to kit out on arrival
| Hyotan Onsen day visit | Published rate |
|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥1,160 |
| Small towel to buy | ¥250 |
| Bath towel to rent | ¥200 |
| Admission plus both towels | ¥1,610 |
Rinse-in shampoo, body wash and hair dryers are listed for the bathing areas.
There is an old price on the facility’s FAQ: ¥220 for a towel and ¥150 for a bath-towel rental. The dedicated fee page now gives ¥250 and ¥200; use that page for the current estimate and check again before visiting. If you need a private bath rather than the shared large bath, the Beppu private-bath comparison covers the separate rates and booking choices.
Kagoshima’s Satsuma-no-Yu: the closest thing to a complete no-prep visit
At SHIROYAMA HOTEL kagoshima, adult day admission to Satsuma-no-Yu is ¥3,500, including the bathing tax. Day visitors can enter from 1 to 9 p.m. Face and bath towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryers and keyed lockers are included. The men’s side lists razors and shaving cream; the women’s side lists cotton pads, makeup remover, facial cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Body towels, toothbrushes and other items can be requested at reception.
That is the highest admission in this comparison, but the published inclusions make the final bill predictable. It suits a stop after checkout or before a long onward journey when carrying wet towels is a nuisance. For other city baths at different price points, use the Kagoshima city onsen and sento guide.
Ureshino Siebold no Yu: bring a towel for the ¥450 ticket
| Siebold no Yu day visit | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥450 |
| Hours | 6 a.m.–10 p.m.; entry ends at 9:30 p.m. |
| Regular closure | Third Wednesday; moves to Thursday when that Wednesday is a public holiday |
| Towels | Bring your own; no current rental price is listed |
The city page does not list a complete bath-amenity set, so admission alone is not a verified no-prep total.
Roof and exterior repairs are scheduled through December 15, 2026. The city says the bath remains open as usual during the work. If you are visiting before then, expect construction around the building and check the city notice for any access updates. The Kyushu onsen destination guide can help fit Ureshino into a wider route; for a general packing list, see what to bring to a Japanese sento or day-use onsen.
What “towel included” means at a Japanese bath
A face towel and a bath towel do different jobs. The smaller towel goes with you to the washing area; keep it out of the bathwater. A bath towel is for drying off in the changing room. A facility that includes one face towel has not necessarily included a full-size drying towel.
When a facility uses wording such as “available” or “amenities provided,” check whether that means included, sold or rented. Accommodation-room supplies may also differ from what a day visitor receives. If the published page conflicts with itself—as Sansuikan’s currently does—confirm the exact day-use set directly before relying on the lower total.
