Jujoyu and Kissa Shinkai: A Tokyo Sento with an Attached Café
Pair a ¥600 bath at Jujoyu in Jujo with retro café Kissa Shinkai next door. Sunday morning bathing and café hours differ.
Jujoyu pairs a high-ceilinged bathhouse and tiled underwater mural with Kissa Shinkai, an attached café with its own menu and opening hours. The café began in 1985 and reopened as Shinkai in 2021; its deep-sea theme takes its name from the aquatic tilework in the women’s bath.
Sunday morning is the best time to combine bath and breakfast
Jujoyu opens 3–11 p.m. most days and closes Fridays. On Sundays there is an additional morning session from 8 a.m. to noon. Kissa Shinkai typically opens 3–9 p.m. and closes Mondays and Fridays, so it does not overlap with the Sunday morning bath session. If breakfast at the café is part of the plan, check its own current notices; do not assume that the café opens at the same time as the morning bath.
Adult admission is ¥600 under Tokyo’s current public-bath rate. Elementary-school children pay ¥200 and preschool children ¥100. The bathhouse has hot and cooler pools, a cold bath, jet and bubble baths, and a sauna; it uses well water rather than a confirmed natural hot-spring source. A sauna surcharge may apply, so ask at the counter for the current price. Towels and other extras are separate from the basic bath ticket.
A neighbourhood bath, not an all-day spa
Jujoyu opened in 1949. Its tall ceiling and mosaic tile mural give the bathing room a strong Showa-era feel, while the attached café provides a comfortable place to linger over a drink or a light meal. There is a sauna and cold bath if you want a short heat-and-cool cycle, but the building is still a local sento rather than a day resort: there is no large lounge, overnight area or all-day relaxation package.
The nearest station is JR Saikyo Line’s Jujo Station, around five minutes away on foot. From the station, walk through the shopping street and turn into the residential lanes. Kissa Shinkai can be visited separately from the bath, which is handy if someone in your group wants coffee and the retro interior but would rather skip the bathhouse.
For a first sento visit, the Tokyo bathhouse basics guide explains what to bring and how the bathing routine works.
