A Late-Night Bath Near Ueno: Getting to Kotobukiyu from Inaricho

Kotobukiyu is two minutes from Inaricho and open until 1:30 a.m. Check its last-entry caveat, sauna surcharge and route from Ueno’s Iriya Exit.

If dinner or an evening around Ueno leaves you wanting a proper bath before bed, Kotobukiyu is one of the easier neighborhood stops to reach on foot. It is close to Inaricho Station on the Ginza Line and still walkable from Ueno’s Iriya Exit. The bathhouse stays open until 1:30 a.m., giving you a later option than many traditional sento.

Which station makes more sense?

From Inaricho, leave the station and walk toward Iriya along Kiyosubashi-dori; the bathhouse is roughly two minutes away. From Ueno, use the Iriya Exit and follow Asakusa-dori toward Asakusa for about seven minutes. The first route is the quick one, while the second can slot into an Ueno evening without another train ride.

Once inside, Kotobukiyu is a public bath, not a private room or overnight spa. Adult admission is ¥600, with sauna access charged separately. Towels are available to rent. If you want to know what the baths and sauna are like before choosing it, the full Kotobukiyu guide covers the layout, including the differences between the men’s and women’s sides.

Leave room before the last train—or arrive earlier

Hours are 11 a.m.–1:30 a.m.; the regular closing day is the third Thursday of the month. The posted closing time is not a promise that you can arrive at 1:25 and still have a full bath. Go earlier if you need time to wash, bathe and get back to your hotel or station without rushing.

Current admission is ¥600, with an additional ¥350 for sauna use on weekdays or ¥450 on weekends and public holidays. Bring cash for the simple sento-style visit, and check the bathhouse’s latest notice before making a late trip. For a first visit, these Tokyo sento basics explain the usual etiquette and what to bring.
