Yuda Onsenkyo Day Trip: Hotto Yuda, Sunayukko and Ushinoyu

Compare Yuda Onsenkyo baths: Hotto Yuda is inside the station, Sunayukko adds a hot-sand bath and Ushinoyu opens in the afternoon. Each standard bath is ¥440.

Yuda Onsenkyo is a string of hot-spring areas across Nishiwaga, not a compact resort street. Three day-use baths cover very different plans: Hotto Yuda is inside Hotto Yuda Station, Sunayukko pairs a regular bath with a hot-sand treatment, and Ushinoyu is a neighbourhood bath in Yumoto. All three charge ¥440 (about HK$22 / NT$90) for an ordinary adult bath, so location and bathing style matter more than the base fare.

Hotto Yuda is the easy rail stop

Hotto Yuda’s bath is inside the station, so there is no local transfer after arriving by train. A signal in the large bath changes colour as a train approaches, useful on a line with limited departures. Bath users may use the rest room without charge.

The facility reopened on September 20, 2026, after a temporary closure caused by a spring-equipment problem. Its operator lists regular bathing from 8 am to 8 pm and private bathing from 8 am to 6 pm; the second Wednesday of each month is normally a closure day, shifted to Thursday if it falls on a public holiday. Since the reopening is recent, check the operator’s calendar before making a tight rail connection the reason for your visit.

Sunayukko’s sand bath needs an earlier arrival

The sand bath includes ordinary admission. Guests change into a yukata and lie in natural silica sand warmed by the hot spring; staff cover the body. The operator describes the sand as heated to around 60°C; that is the sand temperature, not the bathwater.

The sand treatment has a shorter opening window than the ordinary bath, so make it the first stop if it is the reason for the visit.

Sunayukko is not at the station. Nishiwaga’s fixed-route town bus runs from Hotto Yuda Station toward Yumoto and the Sunayukko area, but service days and times vary by route. Some trips use a separate reservation-based on-demand service and require advance registration. Check the route table for your travel day and confirm the return before getting off.

Ushinoyu opens in the afternoon

Ushinoyu is in Yumoto Onsen beside the indoor pool. Spring-water details for Yumoto No. 3 identify an alkaline sodium-sulphate/chloride spring; the 88°C figure is the source temperature, not the bath temperature.

Town buses stop at Yumoto Onsen, about a 12-minute ride from Hotto Yuda Station on the published route. That route has different weekday and weekend patterns, and not every departure is a useful return. Work back from the train you need to catch; a bath that closes at 8 pm does not mean buses will still be running then.

The railway disruption is on the Yokote side

As of September 11, 2026, JR East has suspended all trains between Hotto Yuda and Yokote after heavy rain damaged the line between Hotto Yuda and Aino-no. Trains between Kitakami and Hotto Yuda are running normally. Replacement buses for the suspended section have operated daily, including weekends and holidays, since September 12. Anyone coming from Kitakami, Hanamaki or Morioka can still plan around the eastern rail section; travellers approaching from Yokote should check the latest replacement-bus plan before setting out.

For a straightforward half-day, take the Kitakami Line to Hotto Yuda, bathe at the station and return by train. Sunayukko or Ushinoyu adds a town-bus leg and makes the timetable part of the outing. Trying to visit all three in one trip leaves less room for the waits between them; two stops are a better fit when the bus connections line up.
