Hananomai in Autumn: A Small Yufuin Inn with Baths for Shared Use
Hananomai has eight rooms, a garden-facing bath and two private-use baths. Check room layouts, stairs and child restrictions before booking an autumn stay.
Checked: September 27, 2026 Hananomai makes sense for a Yufuin autumn stay if you want to spend the day around town and return to a compact inn for a soak. The main bath has large windows that open to create a semi-outdoor setting; the inn describes the seasonal view as including autumn leaves. That is a view of the property’s surroundings, not a promise that the foliage will peak on your dates.
Choose the room for the bath you actually want
The Yufu City booking site lists eight rooms in three groups: four second-floor Japanese rooms without an in-room bath, two Japanese rooms with an indoor bath, and two detached Japanese-Western rooms with a private open-air bath. Overnight guests can also use the shared public bath, private-use open-air bath and private-use indoor bath. The private-use baths do not take advance reservations; guests use them when vacant, so a particular evening slot is not guaranteed.
That makes the standard room a reasonable choice if shared bathing is fine and you only need a private-use bath when one is free. Pay more for an indoor-bath room if you want to bathe without going to the shared facilities. Choose one of the two detached rooms only if a private open-air bath in your own room is a must. The ordinary Japanese rooms are upstairs, so factor in the stairs if you have heavy luggage or limited mobility.
Make the town walk part of the stay
The inn is about a 15-minute walk from Yufuin Station. A pickup from the station or bus center can be arranged, but the inn asks guests to contact it by the day before; airport pickup is not offered. Parking is available on site. The location also works well for combining a town visit with an early walk around Lake Kinrinko, without having to drive back and forth.
Hananomai’s child rules vary by booking plan and room. The official city reservation listing has offered plans that exclude children, while other listings describe family rooms. Enter each child’s age on the exact plan you intend to book and confirm bedding and meals directly if the booking page is unclear.
For a wider seasonal shortlist, compare Yufuin’s autumn ryokan options. If you are deciding whether to stay in town or make a day trip, see the Yufuin day trip or overnight guide.
